I am going to pull the trigger on my wheel purchase and I would like to know what you think of my two choices. Which way would you go? 18x8 & 18X9.5 in Boss 338's in chrome or 16x8 & 17x9.5 in polished Torque thrusts II's.

I do like both, but having to choose one or the other I'd say the TT's. I like the step in the rims instead of the smooth no lip look. I think the Boss's would look better if you plan on lowering it.

I like both but am not a fan of 16's

I agree, I would consider changing the TT's front to a 17x8 .

Here is my car with my brothers wheels on it. We put them on just to see what it would look like. TT's polished 17x9.5 in rear and 17x8 on front.

My personal opinion is that Chevelles and thin sidewall tires DO NOT look right together. You raised another point that I have never put into words before but completely agree with...that smooth lipped wheels don't look right either.

I'd say that 17" wheels are the biggest diameter that you can still put some rubber on. There's nothing wrong with having the same diameter wheel in the front and back...with different widths. Go with the TTII's, in 17"x8" and 17"x9.5".

This calculator will help you with fitment and is a good visual aid for comparing tire/wheel/offset combos.

If you like, I can bring over my set of TT2's for you to bolt up and check out before you buy. They are 17x9.5" and 17x8". Send me a PM if your interested. Personaly I don't care for chrome wheels and like the TT2's, I also really like Centerline's Retro Wheel!

I'm with Jake and Mike. I'm a big Torq Thrust fan. I am probably going to go with 17x8 and 17x9.5 on my 72 when and if I ever reach that point. The 338s look plenty cool, but I they are just a tad too hoopty for a Chevelle.

I would NOT go with 16s in front... not enough "performance" tires in 16".

I like the style of the 338s better because everybody has TTIIs, but I prefer polished over chrome... Chrome is nice and easy to keep clean, but it's just too shiny, and IMHO looks too "blingy" in larger diameters. Polished wheels suck to keep clean though.

I agree with the others... go with 17" wheels.
Not enough tire choices with a 16" and 18" start to get too narrow a sidewall.
I've got 17" Boyds on my '67.

The problem is I can have my Buddy's 16's for free........ two less wheels to buy is something to consider 285/40 17's on back, 225/50 16's up front equals $ 600 + in savings. THIS EQUALS DILEMA!

I don't think there is anything wrong with using 16s in the front. I was just looking at tirerack and there seems to be a halfway decent variety of tires in 16", you might even be able to find the same model tire in both wheel sizes.

I like the factory rally's presonally. But think the torque thrusts look great on any muscle car.

What back spacing will you run on them wheels?
I want to fit the same to width to a 66 Chevelle but in 17's with 245/40 up front and 285/40 on the back
Thanks
Sean
