"NCRS to offer shipment data on Chevelle, Nova and Camaro models"

"Since late 2011, the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) has offered members access to shipment data on 1962-'75 Chevrolet Corvettes, including dealer code, dealer name, dealer address and build data, for a fee of $40. In the second quarter of 2014, the NCRS will expand its offerings to include shipment data on 1965-'72 Chevelle, 1965-'72 Nova and 1967-'72 Camaro models, for a fee of $50, with no NCRS membership required.

The year range chosen by the NCRS was based upon its experience with Corvette models. The NCRS also wants time to adjust to the anticipated volume of requests from the above owners; while the population of 1965-'72 Corvettes is roughly 350,000, the population of similar year Chevelles, Novas and Camaros is somewhere above seven million.

GM still retains dealer invoice data for Chevrolet models built after 1977; Cadillac models built after 1980; GMC models built after 1976; Oldsmobile models built after 1977; Saurn models built after 1994; and Pontiac models built after 1987, and this data is available for purchase directly from the GM Media Archive (www.gmmediaarchive.com).
Build records for 1962 to 1986 Pontiac models are available from the Pontiac Historical Services (www.phs-online.com) while the Sloan Museum and Buick Gallery (www.sloanlongway.org/buick-gallery/research/automotive-research) can provide information on 1970 and 1972-'76 Buick models. Finally, GM Canada Vintage Vehicle Services (www.vintagevehicleservices.com) maintains an archive of data on all GM models sold in Canada from 1964 to present.

For additional information on shipment data reports for Chevelle, Nova and Camaro models, visit Chevy Muscle Docs (www.chevymuscledocs.com). For shipment data reports on Corvette models, or for other Corvette-specific services such as document validation or car award confirmation (all of which require membership in the NCRS), visit the National Corvette Restorers Society (wwwNCRS.org)."

I'm so close to doing this, but can't justify the $100 right now. I just paid tuition yesterday and the last text book I bought was nearly $170!

I would really like to know what dealership both cars came from. Maybe find some vintage dealer swag, or at least good pictures of dealer logos, etc. I know these data sheets don't always lead to the exact dealer. That's the only downside.

I don't know anyone who has done this yet. I wish I could help you.

Interesting. I have a build sheet for my Chevelle so I think I already have the info they can supply.

Thread on TC about some "ripples" in this service. Roy has left NCRS, no official statement though. I was going to order this for both cars, glad I held off. They are still taking orders, but a few people stated that they hadn't received their docs yet. (Not sure on how much of a delay in the service or if it will go on)

Thanks for the info. It might be one of those things that was a good concept but didn't work out in the end.

I hope they sort it out and make it work. I have next to zero information about my 69'. :(

It looks like people are receiving their docs once again. Glad they didn't discontinue the service.

I don't know if it would be worth it for me to do something like this considering all the modifications that I have done to my car.

I decided to take a chance and submit the vin for my 69' Malibu. Got my docs in less than a week. It gave me the dealership name: Humphrey Chevrolet of Milwaukee, WI. Now I just need to hope I can find an emblem. Please keep an eye out for me at the swap meets, etc.

so is this worth doing? most of these dealers that originally sold the car are gone, so still no way to get a window sticker or build sheet?

Correct. Unless your car was built in Canada, out of luck. I did it, found out my 69' was sold new at a dealer that sold a lot of HP cars. Helped me trace the car back to a speciffic state/area.
