OK so now that i am getting the ball rolling my list is getting shorter and shorter. I was given a 7 blade fan to go on my chevelle but with the fan it has a big block of aluminum almost like a spacer with very long bolts. I was wondering is that what you use? i dont have a fan clutch and i am not sure how to put it on my fan. Does anyone have any pictures of how the clutch goes on the fan? do you need a fan clutch tool?

The aluminum is probably indeed a spacer and was mounted directly to the waterpump.

What you will see with a fan clutch is that the clutch has a shaft that goes through the center hole of the fan. The fan attaches to the clutch and is flush mounted to the rear of the clutch. The clutch then mounts to the waterpump with 4 relatively short bolts.

At the end of the day, it will look like this. 4 bolts to secure fan to back side of clutch and 4 bolt that go through the 4 holes in the mounting base of the clutch and into the waterpump nose.

These are used more commonly with flex fans serving as a spacer and is what I imagine you are referring to.

Shaun, are you going to run a stock shroud on your radiator? Chevelle's came with a 7 blade 772 fan that are 17.5" long. Anything longer may not work for you. I agree toss the flex fan, plus what does it measure?

I have heard horror stories of those fans going through the hood when they come apart but have not used one myself .

That would be scary especially if you are on the e-way.

i have the fan shroud not sure if its correct for my car i think it came off a 70 chevelle. I can tell you this the more i am looking into the fan setup the more my ford Taurus fan setup seems more appealing to me :) its already has a built in shroud and has two speeds on it. And i know it works good because that is what i have in my rx7 with a very small rad and it keeps her right at 185 even sitting in traffic at 90 degree weather...lol
