I am about to start wiring the front of the car on the chevelle but i wanted to test some more things before i do it. I wanted to know what can i do to test the voltage regulators to see if they are in good working order before i put it all together in the car?
and hints or tips?

Don't really know how to test one out of the car. You could always pick up a Wells VR715. It's a solid sate vr that is a direct replacement for the old mechanical ones. Should be less than $20. Autozone also sells one under the Duralast brand which is made by Wells.

Guess they've gone up some. Not really worth farting around with the old mechanical ones for that price.

Whats the date on on the old one, don't toss it. They have value. The last one I saw for a 69 or 70 was around $75

I'm still running my original with no problems.

Or you can have a totally stock looking regulator with the reliability of solid state regulation. A Wells VR715 voltage regulator is totally interchangeable without wiring modifications and accepts the stock Delco cover from the original regulator. Even the mounting holes are in the original location.

Autozone sells the Wells unit under their Duralast brand name and is sold under the same part number - VR715.

Saw this for sale
Delco Remy voltage regulator 1119515 dated 0C or March 1970. Cap has a NOS like appearance...no dings or dents. 4-speed or automatic transmissions, small or big block engines.

Nice detail item. Never installed since restoration. Ready to show, judge and enjoy. Asking 85.00 plus $12.50 shipping/tracking and insurance to the 48 states.

You can see the 70 in the upper right corner, that where the date code is.
