I am in need of replacing the rear arm rest bases on my 71. Many online restoration companies sell these reproductions. I ordered a set from Ground Up and when I received it noticed several things. They don't have the detail for one. The side piece that runs up the side of the rear seat is plastic and doesn't have a way to fasten it to the base. I am sending them back. Has anyone purchased an aftermarket set and found them to be accurate?

You might check with James Hinshaw (Hinshaws Chevelle Parts) in Elon ,North Carolina to see if he has some nice original ones .He has a lot of good quality used parts as well as reproduction stuff. He will also tell you what repro stuff is not worth buying .

I still have a set of reproduction one I purchased and had painted to match my interior before I recieved them. I never used them for the same reason. Find a nice set of originals and have them painted to match your interior. No one sells one that look like the originals that I know of. What color do you need?

Ray- that is mighty kind of you! The Ebay arm rest happens to be the passenger side and is the side I really need. The Driver side I can probably make due with (just a crack). I placed a bid so we will see. Your friend, might he happen to have a black rear side panel, passenger side? I'd like to replace that too. Thanks again.

So were you the winning bid? I put an email to my friend to see what he has.

I am so mad. I've never bought on Ebay before. I was the only bidder. That is what i thought. However just before it expired someone placed a bid and beat mine by a few dollars. I had no idea i should have set up alerts. Just my ignorance and inexperience. I am still steaming about it.

When you bid you have to put the max you are willing to go. That way when someone bids your bid will out bid them until they bid over your max. I aways go on line just before the end. Everyone bids in the last 2 minutes and in the last 30 seconds the bids reallly go fast if someone wants it that bad. I usually bid in the last 10 seconds to get what I want.

Rather than deal with trying to purchase a good used set, and being very disappointed with the after market sets, I made some repairs to the current set I have and repainted them using a SEM product called COLOR COAT. While I was at it I also applied it to the side panels so they would look fresh too. I was impressed with how well it turned out. The SEM product applies very nicely. Hopefully it hold up. Saved myself $$$ by fixing what I have.
