Make a good project for you and your son. Looks like it needs maybe a trunk pan and quarters from the rust I see on the quarters.

Looks very solid and complete.

Only thing missing is the interior. The guy I got it from was hard up for money and sold the interior, which was very nice, for around $250.00. COMPLETE IDIOT! I can't buy trashed seats for that. Oh well, I'm in it for cheap so I can't complain. I put the motor in it Saturday. Here's a pic.

If you put your pictures into an album on your profile page you will be able to post your pictures larger. You just put the BB Code into the message, and your pictures will be larger. A plus too, is that all your pictures will be in the same place. Just a thought.

The trunk is perfect where I can see. We'll see what the edges look like when the quarters come off. That's the plan this winter. The only visible floor rust in the whole car is where the ribbon cable runs under the drivers feet. about a 4"X6" spot. Somebody put a floor shifter in it and it looks like they opened it up with a can opener. I'll fix that when I get the drivers floor.

It is so neat to be able to work on these cars with our kids. Memories that will be talked about forever.

My son is 21 and is a welder so he makes pretty good money and still lives at home. He not only helps with the work but is cutting my build cost in half. It will be all his some day anyway.

We fired the motor today. That 468 is so nasty. I put a Champion radiator in it with dual fans. Guaranteed to cool 850 hp motor.

Eagle Crank
Eagle Rods
10.5 to 1 Pistons
2.19 Stainless Intake Valves
1.88 Stainless Exhaust Valves
Dbl Springs
Ported and Polished Heads
Victor Jr. Intake

Hearing it run just makes me smile

I'm making my all stainless exhaust today. I made the flanges out of 3/8" stainless. The exhaust tubes are 3 1/2" and I used a 4 1/2" tube for the outer body of the muffler. I bent the turn downs on a 5.25 radius and I will cut them later today. Hope to have them all welded up and will post pictures tomorrow.

I'll see if I can figure that out.

You can always record a video and upload it to youtube and then post a link here. That way we can see and hear the car.

I'll give that a try when I get the exhaust on.

I put my exhaust on. Its too loud. I am going to order some inserts from Smileys and see if that helps. They look great though. I took some pictures but my phone keeps failing to send. I will put them on as soon as it works.

Thanks,

I made the pieces to quiet them down. They are perforated stainless. I rolled them into a cone shape and slid them into the pipe just in front of the turn down. I was surprised but they did help. Not enough though. I am going to take them out and order muffler inserts from Speedway. I can get them in 3 1/2" by 7" long. My father-in-law has them on his 33 chevy. I was wanting to keep the restriction to a minimum but I can't get pulled over every time i drive this thing either. I took a video to post but the car is so loud that it just sounded like white noise. I'll try again after I tone it down a bit.

No tail pipes or crossover pipe? ( X or H) Both would tone it down A LOT.

Kaboo
07-27-2012, 12:25 PM
You are right, I just dont want to run tail pipes. I like the sound of large straight pipes. I just gotta get it pulled down a little more. I'll get there just got to play with it.

Well, I have given up on my home made mufflers. I am going to get some 3.50 inlet / outlet mufflers. Also going to do the H pipe. I spoke with my engine builder and he told me to make the H as close to the headers as I can. I got a breakdown on my H.P. and torque while I had him on the phone. Top horse is 570 and torque is 511. Best shift point should be at 5500 to 5700 with 533 horse and 511 torque. I have a 2800 stall, and should be making 413 lbs. of torque at that point. My converter should flash around 3400, my guess would be around 450 torque at that point.

Wonder why he told you that about the placement of the H crossover? It is standard practice to use a crayon and mark the pipes. Then start the car and let it burn off. Where it stops burning off, that is where you want to put the crossover. (or at least as close as possible - space permitting)

Its been a while since I posted but I have made some progress. I scrapped my entire exhaust and put 3" Flowmaster 40's on it. It sounds great, I am way more happy with it than I thought I would be. Also picked up two new, still have the stickers on them, Hoosier drag radials off of Craigslist. should have those on today. Gettin' closer.

Looks great...I'm guessing the same color ("K" Code Art Turq) as my '66 is.
What color is the interior?

Kaboo
08-18-2012, 11:55 PM
Nothing new on the interior. I put a pair of 69 Camaro buckets in it for now. Except for the B&M shifter and the dash pad, its bare bones steel inside. We took it to the local cruise in tonight. I drove the '39 and my son drove the Chevelle. No interior and rusted quarters, it still drew a lot of lookers.

Bill you are correct the paint code is KK. The interior was black, and almost perfect. The guy that had it before me got hard up for cash and sold the interior for $250.00.
