Hello all. Hope ya'll had a great Thanksgiving. Well im still building on my 70 Chevelle. I have a recently rebuilt 454 (bored .40)motor in it. This motor takes forever to warmup! If my foot is not constantly on the gas for about 5-7 it will cut off immediately. After that it idles fine. From what I've been told this is a common problem for big blocks but no one can seem to give me a sensible answer on how to cure it. I have a 600cfm Holley on top. Any advice would be very helpful.

Dumb question, is there no choke setup on the carb?

On mine, 454, Holley carb, I turn the key to ON or RUN and depress the pedal all the way to the floor. That sets the choke and gives it a squirt of gas. Then I start the engine, foot off of the pedal. If I start it with pedal down some or touch the pedal after it's started it will come off of high idle and stall out. I have to let run a few minutes to warm up then I can drive it without it stalling.
