Welcome to the site. Congratulations, sounds like you've scored a cool car. We are all full of ideas around here. You ought to post some pics, and let us know some of your intentions with the car, and we can come up with all sorts of different directions you can go.

Hey man cool car. And as far as "taking alot of time to get it going" ... hey thats the fun of it!

Back off when you get burned out or if working on it interfers with school or a paying job .... both should come first.

The biggest thing I can think of, and it sounds cheesy, but after you get it running do not (underline that!) drive it on the road until you have insurance and a license. Sh*t happens, and no one thinks bad things will happen to them but it sometimes does. I am not BSing on this!

Enjoy your car, visualize now how you want it to turn out (but keep a open mind for change) and keep an eagle eye out for the parts to accomplish that. Good deals can be had with patience! You'll have a blast.

Good luck and take alot of pictures for looking back later and feel free to post a few here.

hey thanks every body for your posts :) i plan to make it a garnish red or a deeper blue with black racing stripes. i want to put a 350 small block in it and i want it to have around 400 horse power in it, me and my dad are going to build the engine and we have a guy we know for the body work. i want to have it done in about 2 or 3 years. so do you know any websites that i could look on to find parts?

Red or blue huh? That sounds great. I like both. :D 400 horses out of a smallblock is very easily do-able.

Welcome Tobe. My only suggestion is to do it the way you want to do it. Don't let anyone talk you into something that you don't want.

Don't forget to post some pics when you get the car. We love all pics !

14 and bought a Chevelle, now that is cool. Welcome Tobe, our youngest member.

trueconnections.com and npdlink.com are couple more for new parts and of course summitracing.com and jegs.com for engine and suspension stuff. Craigslist is also a good source for used parts. Ebay too if you're careful and know what you're looking at,

Welcome! I built my car while in High School too... my advice is to focus on safety and reliability more than horsepower. Disc brakes and a few cheap suspension upgrades can do a lot for the safety of the car.

For performance mods, start at the back of the car and work forward... a bunch of HP won't do much for you if you have junk suspension and an open rear with freeway gears. Add HP when you have the chassis to handle it. I know a few people who won a lot of races against much better engines, just because they could hook up and go.

14 ? And bought your 1st Chevelle. Hell at 14. Only thing on my mind were girls. Tobe your way out in front all ready. :) You have to keep us updated on your Chevelle. And pictures will help us too see your progress. great to see. That the younger guys are keeping this Hobby alive. A couple of yrs ago. I had the garage door open. While working on my Chevelle. A young lady and her 2 children walked by. The boy was maybe 6 or 7. I heard him say out loud to his mom. Hey Mom look a Chevelle. That just floored me. I was under the car. So I couldn't get up fast enough to say somethings to him. But I was amazed he knew. Good luck with your project. I have a 70 with a beefed up 350. Runs GREAT. I also just installed electric cut outs on it. So just in case I run up next to a ricer. I open them up and let it roar for a min. Then close them. :) And just smile. Rick

Tobe, here is a females opinion on your car. I totally agree with Derek. Your safety, and your friends safety is more important than anything. It doesn't really matter what the car looks like, as long as it's a "classic" the girls will love it !

The cosmetics of the car can be done at anytime. But knowing that everytime you drive it, it will stop, is very important.

Just my point of view.

Welcome to the site! You'll love (and hate at times) figuring out what you want to do with it but it all pays off. I've found some good deals on ebay but prefer ausley's chevelle (chevelle.com) mostly because they are close to me and have good pricing. ss396.com and chevellesrus.com are good also. Good luck! Post pics when you get it home.

There is a really cool car guy that lives in Norman OK .He drives his 70 convertible to chevellabration every year and drag races it and then drives it back home. His name is Tom and he is usually looking for someone to ride out with him every year .You should try to hook up with him.
