I should be able to drive it around town with the wife in a week or two. Really sucked having only one seat in the car for the last year! LOL

I am happy things are looking up for you. Had to be pure hell having the neighbors see you have a car with only one seat.:p

lol...now I have to laugh at the fact that she made you sit on the floor. Did the neighbors see? lol...

Yes they did. And I looked pretty funny waving over the door at them. :o

Seats look sharp, man. I like the red piping on the seams, really classes them up. It looks like they'll accommodate some 4 point harnesses. Is that right?

Rattler

Yes they will. I ordered up a matching set of red harnesses. Hopefully they don't stick out like a sore thumb.

I got the dash redesigned and wired up for the new gauges. I'm just waiting for my speedometer and it will be complete. Here's the dash with everything else installed now.

Looking good. I like how you did the gauges. Especially like the silver/grey against the red. Sharp.

I worked on the car for about 4 hours early this morning and got some more done. Before I bought the fuel cell I opened the trunk and measured the space I had to mount it so I could get the biggest tank I could fit. Well the tank fits in the hole, but the damn sump outlets are up against the rear frame cross member.

Here's what I'm working with
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/chevelle/trunk/fuel%20cell%20001.jpg

Here's the tank in place.
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/chevelle/trunk/fuel%20cell%20002.jpg

And this is the problem I ran into.
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/chevelle/trunk/fuel%20cell%20003.jpg

So my options were to cut the brackets off behind the tank and start from scratch to lengthen the mounting spot or run the tank backwards which would be totally f*n gay. LOL

So I started removing the sheet metal to see what I was dealing with and actually feel that I got lucky. The guy that tubbed the car had the top bracket out much further then the sides and bottom for some reason so the sheet metal wasn't even welded to the supports except for the top. Everywhere else it was simply tacked in place. You can kind of see the line where the paint stopped. That's where the sheet metal was welded.
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/chevelle/trunk/fuel%20cell%20004.jpg

So I cut off the top support bracket and test fit the tank.
http://www.allenitllc.com/hotrods/chevelle/trunk/fuel%20cell%20005.jpg

Walla!!! Plenty of room for my 90 degree fittings now!!

So now I just need to re weld the upper support bracket into the proper place, cut the top sheet metal back and tack all the sheet metal back in place.

I also bolted the sliders on the seats and have them sitting in the car, I need to cut the rear support bar off the roll cage so the seats will recline. I'm making some mounting brackets at work tomorrow so I should have some pics of them soon. :D

Well I've got my fuel cell mounted and plumbed. Gas gauge is installed and operating. I just picked up a Mallory canister fuel filter off of craigslist for $25. I'll get to mounting it and plumbing it this week.

I also found a guy on craigslist selling a brand new black carpet kit for the 64 chevelle and picked it up for $50. I've got some more work to do before the carpet goes in, but I got a hell of a deal. =)

Craigs list can be a great place to find things we need. As well as getting rid of the stuff we don't.

Rattler
07-26-2010, 05:04 PM
Sure can. I love it! The stuff I bought saved me over $200. I had to drive 75 miles to get it, but we took the kids with us and made a day trip out of it and stopped at Cabela's to do some browsing around and ended up eating lunch there and picked up some camping equipment. =)

Well I've got the fuel system all mounted and plumbed again. I had to make some spacers to move the fuel pump out far enough so I could couple it to the filter. Here's the final outcome. =)

She's alive again! I've got all my gauges in the dash wired and working. Seats are installed and VERY comfortable. I bought new carpet for it, but I'm not putting it in until I'm done with the rest of the interior. Here's a couple more pics and a little trial run video.

The neighbors love it and come check out the progress all the time. I just need to remember to respect them and not do anything stupid in my neighborhood. LOL I've got to find a place where I can get a little crazier and I'll post some more video soon.

The chirping I heard as you pulled back in to the driveway...

Is there a locker or spool in the rear?

Rattler

Full spool still in the rear. If I end up doing a lot of street driving then I'm going to swap it out for 9" posi unit.
